When a renter applies with a Clara Renter Passport, they're handing you a portable tenant screening report: a verified, up-to-date snapshot of everything you need to make a confident decision. No chasing paperwork, no fee to you, and no wondering whether the numbers are real.
Here's what that means and how to review one in Clara.
What a portable screening report gives you
A portable tenant screening report (also called a PTSR or reusable screening report) is a verified report the renter owns and can share with more than one landlord. Instead of running a fresh screening from scratch, you review a report that's already been verified by a consumer reporting agency.
For you, that means:
- Verified applicants, faster. Credit, income, identity, and background are already confirmed by the time the report reaches you.
- No cost to you. You don't pay to view a renter's passport.
- A larger, qualified pool. Renters who screen once and apply widely are more likely to reach your listing.
How you get access
You don't need to request anything or run a separate check. Here's the flow:
- The renter shares their Clara Renter Passport with you.
- You create a free Clara login (or sign in, if you already have one).
- You review their verified report in your secure dashboard.
That's it. No PDF to dig out of an email, no re-keying information by hand.
What you'll see in the profile
Everything lives in one secure view, so you can assess an applicant at a glance:
- Credit — verified through TransUnion
- Background and eviction history — verified through CIC
- Identity verification — verified ID document and selfie-match
- Income — confirmed through secure payroll or bank connections. For bank-verified income, you can download a full transaction report if you want the detail.
Because it's a live dashboard rather than a static file, you're always looking at verified results — not a document that could have been altered before it reached you.
How current is the report?
Every Clara passport is verified and time-stamped, so you can see when the credit and background and verifications were completed. Credit and background reports stays active for 30 days, which means the reports you review are recent by design. If you'd like a renter to refresh their information, they can update their passport in a few steps.
If you're a landlord or agent in Colorado
Colorado law is built around exactly this kind of report. Most landlords are required to accept a valid portable tenant screening report, and generally can't charge a separate application or screening fee when a renter provides one.

Common questions
Do I have to pay to view a renter's passport? No. Viewing a shared passport is free for landlords and agents.
Can I trust that the information is accurate? Yes. Reports are verified and shown live in your dashboard, not handed over as a document the renter controls.
I'm an agent screening for a landlord. Does this work the same way? Yes. You review the shared passport in your dashboard and manage the applicant through to a decision, just as a landlord would.
