Your Clara Renter Passport is a portable tenant screening report, a verified snapshot of your rental credentials that you own and can share with as many landlords as you'd like. You get verified, and your report travels with you, so you're ready to apply anywhere without starting over each time.
Here's how it works and how to make the most of it.
What "portable" actually means
With a traditional rental application, you hand your personal information to one landlord, for one property. Apply to five places, and you might do that five times over.
A portable tenant screening report (sometimes called a PTSR or a reusable screening report) flips that around. You get verified once, and that report is yours to reuse. With Clara, that report is your Clara Renter Passport: you decide who sees it, and you can share it with any landlord or property manager who accepts it.
What's verified in your passport
When you complete your passport, Clara verifies the things landlords care about most, so you don't have to prove them again for every application:
- Credit — pulled securely through TransUnion
- Background and eviction history - pulled securely through CIC
- Identity - verified ID document and selfie-match
- Income - verified through payroll provider or bank connection
This information belongs to you. Clara doesn't hand it out. You choose when to share it, and with whom.
How long your passport stays active
Your passport is active for 30 days from the time it's completed. During that window:
- You can share it with as many landlords as you want.
- Your verified info carries over from one application to the next, so you're never redoing work you've already done.
- Resubmitting comes at no additional cost to you.
When the 30 days are up, you can refresh your credit and background to keep it current. Landlords like a recent report. A fresh passport shows them your details are up to date.
How to share your passport
Sharing takes just a few steps from your Clara dashboard, and you stay in control the whole way:
- You choose which landlord or property manager to share with.
- They get secure access to view your verified report and nothing goes out until you say so.
- You can keep sharing with new places at any time while your passport is active.
Clara is built so that you decide what information reaches which landlord.
What your landlord sees
When you share your passport, the landlord or property manager creates their own free Clara login to view it. A few things worth knowing:
- They don't pay to sign up or to view your report.
- They see your verified results in a secure dashboard — not a PDF. Nothing gets emailed around or left sitting in an inbox.
- Sensitive details stay protected until the right moment. For example, your photo ID isn't released to a landlord until they mark you as approved.
The result: a landlord gets everything they need to say yes with confidence, and you keep control over your personal information.
If you're renting in Colorado
Some states give renters the legal right to use a portable screening report. In Colorado, most landlords are required to accept a valid portable tenant screening report and generally can't charge you a separate application or screening fee when you provide one.
Your Clara Renter Passport is designed to work as your portable tenant screening report in Colorado — verified by a consumer reporting agency, kept recent, and made available to the landlord directly at no cost to them. If a landlord isn't sure how to accept it, they can reach out to us and we'll walk them through it.
Common questions
Can I share my passport with more than one landlord? Yes — that's the whole point. Share it with as many as you'd like while it's active.
Do I have to reapply for every property? No. Your verified info carries over, so you're not starting from scratch each time.
What if my information changes? Your passport reflects your information at the time it was verified. If something meaningful changes, refresh your passport so landlords always see your most current details.
Who can see my information? Only the landlords and property managers you choose to share with. You're always in control of what's shared and when.
