What You'll Need
- A government-issued ID (driver's license, state ID, or passport)
- Your device's camera (phone or computer)
The Process
Step 1: Take a photo of your ID Using your device camera, take a clear photo of your government-issued ID. Clara's system automatically detects the document type and confirms it's a real, physical ID.
Step 2: Take a selfie Take a live selfie so Clara can confirm your face matches your ID photo. The system checks for:
- Image quality and lighting
- Liveness (confirming you're a real person, not a photo or video)
- Face matching between your selfie and ID
Step 3: You're verified Once both steps are complete, your identity is confirmed and a "✓ Identity Verified" badge is added to your profile. This carries over to every application you submit — no need to verify again.
Tips for a Smooth Verification
- Use good lighting — natural light works best, avoid harsh overhead lights
- Avoid glare — tilt your ID slightly if light reflects off the surface
- Hold steady — keep your device and ID stable for a clear photo
- Remove accessories — take off sunglasses or hats for your selfie
If verification doesn't work on the first try, you'll get immediate feedback on what to adjust. You can retake photos as many times as needed.
